Car Care Tips from Our Aberdeen Auto Shop

The best way to save money when it comes to your vehicle is to keep up with its maintenance services at your local aberdeen auto shop. The price of getting your oil changed on a regular basis costs much less than needing a new engine - a costly car  repair that could have been avoided!

At Holzhauser’s, we are always happy to help you with all of your maintenance services and car repair in Aberdeen, MD, but we also want to help you save money and take care of your vehicle on your own!  We know it is never convenient to have you car in the shop, that’s why our ASE-Certified Technicians have come up with some great car care tips to help you keep your vehicle reliable, and save money at the gas pump.

Driving Habits

    • Keep your vehicle clean.  Avoid having mud in the undercarriage. It can weigh a significant amount and slow you down.

    • Consolidate your daily trips and errands. This will save you on the cost of restarting your engine, therefore saving you a lot of gas.

    • Try to avoid air conditioning when possible. But when driving at higher speeds, keep your windows open to create a drag.

    • Don't throttle the gas or brake pedal. Abrupt starts or stops use more gas than gradual changes in speed.

    • Don't have your car in idle for too long.  Turn off the engine if you anticipate a long wait.

    • Limit your car warm-ups in winter.

    • Clear out your vehicle's trunk.  More weight equals more drag.

    • Avoid high speeds.  We know this is almost impossible to resist but you can improve your gas mileage by up to 15 percent driving at 55 mph rather than 65 mph.

    • Use overdrive.  If your car is equipped with overdrive gearing use it as soon as your speed is high enough.

  • Use cruise control.  Driving at a constant speed is best for improving your gas mileage.
